This safari is customized to take advantage of the best opportunities for the season to observe the diverse wildlife in extremely rich habitat areas. Your camps are in private concession areas (except for Tau Pan, which is one of only two permanent camps inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve), where you have access to exclusive wilderness, off-road driving, night drives, walking, and boating. These areas have a small number of guests traversing extremely large areas ensuring exclusive game viewing without the interference of hordes of other vehicles. The ability to go off-road creates opportunities for incredibly close viewing of predators. The camps were selected to enhance the game-viewing experience through their emphasis on top quality guides and trackers, which greatly increases your chance of finding unique wildlife sightings. The areas are beautiful with a great variety of habitats and species, you will likely see between 30 and 35 different mammal species along with a spectacular array of birds and other wildlife.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is a national park in the Kalahari Desert, situated in the center of Botswana. It was established in 1961 to provide the Bushmen land to which they could survive on. It is 52,800km² in size and is the 2nd largest game reserve in the world. The green season provides a unique opportunity to combine desert and delta landscapes with wildlife attracted to the desert regions this time of year due to the access to good grazing in the green season. It is a unique opportunity to observe a wider variety of species with desert-adapted wildlife that cannot be seen in the Okavango Delta such as oryx and springbok.
The Okavango Delta is one of the world’s largest inland water systems and is Botswana’s most famous and popular region for safari. Millions of years ago the Delta once flowed into what is now known as the Makgadikgadi Pans, but due to activity in the earth’s crust plates uplifted causing a break in the layers of rock interrupting the flow of the river, causing it to back up and create what we see today. This transformation has created an unparalleled system of waterways and channels, that support an extraordinary kingdom of flora and fauna that would have otherwise been a flat, dry grassy desert.
The Linyanti / Selinda concessions are private reserves bordering Chobe National Park’s western boundary. It is an enormous region teeming with wildlife, covering an area of 125,000ha (308,000 acres). Visiting the Linyati / Selinda concession area and it’s many varied habitats of dry woodlands and grasslands, marshes, riverine forests and waterways, together with the prolific and diverse wildlife and spectacular scenery, forms a wonderful contrast to the Okavango Delta.
